The power of praise

In the middle of the night Paul and Silas were praying and singing God’s praises, while the other prisoners listened.

Suddenly there was an earthquake that shook the prison to its foundations. All the doors flew open and the chains fell from all the prisoners.

Acts 16:25-26

Wow! The dynamite power of God manifested itself on behalf of Paul and Silas, as they were jailed unjustly for witnessing to Christ.

Normally this Bible passage is used as a reflection about the power of praise. I feel the need to ponder this profoundly – we cannot know the manifest power of God unless we begin to praise Him as though our lives depended on it.

Yes, for sure our God is good and will always manifest His love to us, but the dynamite power of God is unleashed when we praise Him.

How do we praise Him? Like Paul and Silas did.

They praised Him as though their lives depended on Him to rescue their souls from death and destruction, because their lives depended on Him to rescue their souls from death and destruction.

There was no one else that could save them from jail, only God could do it.

They literally depended on Him to perform a miracle of deliverance for them.

I’m sure in that jail cell, they remembered Daniel in the lions’ den; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the roaring flames, and they let their hearts too take courage as they praised Him.

We too should let our hearts take courage as we praise God.

The psalms show us again and again that God delights in the praises of His people.

So how can we be a people of praise?

Not just lip service praise, or fancy feeling praise, but deep, heart poured out praise that makes our Father arise and scatter every evil at His appearing?

This can only be possible through the Advocate. We need the Holy Spirit to help us, to deeply stir up within us a passion and love and complete confidence in God.

Yes, as Christians we need to be confident, audacious in God.

We need to know boldly and truly that God has done great things and will continue to do great things because that is Who He is.

He is the Supreme Being, The Most High above all, and will manifest Himself to us and to our world when we call upon His Name.

So let us open wide our mouth and allow Him to fill us up.

Prayer

Great is Your power.

Great is Your grace.

LORD God Almighty, Omnipotent.

Heaven and earth are full of Your glory.

Holy o LORD, Holy o LORD

Holy are You.

Blessed be the LORD Most High

The King Who is, Who was and is to come

Hallowed be Your Name, the Most High Who reigns

Hallowed be Thy Name.

Always & Forever,

To the Lamb,

With all my ❤
