The fast that pleases God

Is not this the sort of fast that pleases me – it is the Lord who speaks – to break unjust fetters and undo the thongs of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke, to share your bread with the hungry, and shelter the homeless poor,
to clothe the man you see to be naked and not turn from your own kin? Then will your light shine like the dawn and your wound be quickly healed over.
Your integrity will go before you and the glory of the Lord behind you. Cry, and the Lord will answer; call, and he will say, ‘I am here.’

Isaiah 58:6-9

During Lent, especially on Fridays, it is common practice to fast.

Fasting during this season is a way of practicing detachment from worldly desires.

But more importantly than it, it is a way of us setting our hearts and minds on the things of God.

The Bible says, “set your mind on things above not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2).

So today, the LORD tells us what kind of fasting is pleasing to Him.

And yet as I read this, I am acutely aware of my shortcomings.

I ask myself how I’ve been able to fulfil these desires of the LORD and I find myself falling short in many ways.

Oh LORD have mercy on me!

I desire to know Jesus and the Power of His Resurrection and to be a witness of His Power to the whole world through my words and evangelisation but more also through my concrete Christ like actions.

May God give us eyes to see how we can practically help others as He has called us to.

Prayer

LORD Jesus Christ as we begin our Lenten journey together (You and me LORD), I surrender myself to Your Holy Spirit.

St Luke records that when You began Your fast for 40 days and nights, the Spirit drove You into the wilderness.

Let the Holy Spirit also drive me LORD.

Let Him be the One in full charge and control of steering me throughout this season as I walk closer with You. This is my desire LORD! Nothing else will do.

Take me deeper into Your loving heart.

Forgive all my sins and failings and let me take up the kind of prayers, fasting and almsgiving, works of charitable love that truly glorify Your Name.

I thank You LORD for in my weakness Your strength is made manifest.

Thank You Precious Holy Spirit.

Amen!

Always & Forever,

To The Lamb,

With all my 🧡
