Jesus calls sinners to repentance

Jesus noticed a tax collector, Levi by name, sitting by the customs house, and said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And leaving everything he got up and followed him.

In his honour Levi held a great reception in his house, and with them at table was a large gathering of tax collectors and others. The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples and said, ‘Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?’

Jesus said to them in reply, ‘It is not those who are well who need the doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the virtuous, but sinners to repentance.’

Luke 5:27-32

The love of Jesus breaks every bounds.

It has no restrictions and Jesus refuses to be confined as He accepts everyone into the Kingdom of His Heavenly Father.

How great is His love that called me a sinner into repentance and calls me daily still to walk, repenting daily of my sins, so that I might enjoy the pleasures of His everlasting Kingdom.

This is the message of the Gospel.

Jesus didn’t come to call the self-righteous but the sinners who acknowledge their unworthiness to become members of His Body, His Church.

As Christians, we are often scandalised when we see errors and wrongs committed by members of the Body of Christ.

We should never encourage wrongdoing, however, we should become more like Christ who recognises the special grace of God that can work mighty deeds in every believer of His Name.

As long as we believe in sincerity, then mistakes should be forgiven and people should be counseled as we strive once more to stir them on the right path by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

May God give us a heart of love like Saint Matthew, to leave everything to follow Jesus.

Prayers

LORD Jesus Christ, I desire only You.

I desire only You because only Your mercy has saved me from a life of sinfulness and worldly condemnation.

Today, I choose to surrender everything to You as Your apostle Matthew did.

As I surrender completely to You, take me along the path that pleases You and disciple me as Your own beloved child.

Amen.

Always & Forever,

To The Lamb,

With all my
