36 He then took a little child whom he set among them and embraced, and he said to them,
37 ‘Anyone who welcomes a little child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and anyone who welcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.’
Mark 9:36-37
Jesus’ message to us today, to love and embrace little children, is so counter cultural from what we hear in the world.
The world makes us think that children are “expensive” as though they are a sort of liability.
However this instruction from Jesus is consistent with God’s Word that children are a gift from the LORD and the fruit of the womb His reward (Psalm 127:3).
Yes, though it may seem contrary to common sense, Jesus asks us to accept the little ones in His Name, to love and cherish them and nurture them for Eternal Life.
Blessed be God Who has shown us such eternal love as a Father and asks us to share in this grace of His Divinity as parents, carers and relatives.
May we always remember that we were once “little ones” who had to rely on the love and care of others to make it to adulthood, and be filled with a heart of compassion towards children.
May God give us the grace where we are struggling to fulfil this calling on our lives and help us overcome all obstacles to fully realising His will for the welfare (natural and supernatural) of His little ones.
Amen.
Always & Forever,
To the Lamb,
With all my ❤
