Anoint him

And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.” Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward.

1 Samuel 16:12-13

The LORD God asked Samuel to go to Jesse’s house and anoint one of his sons king.

This happened after the current king Saul had disobeyed the LORD and refused to repent.

Samuel went as the LORD commanded and arriving at Jesse’s house met seven of his sons.

As each of them walked by Samuel the LORD ministered to Samuel that he had not chosen any of them.

Eventually Samuel asked Jesse if he had any other sons, and Jesse replied the youngest of them was in the fields.

Samuel asked that they send for him.

His name was David. And when he came to meet them, the LORD confirmed to Samuel that he had chosen David to be king.

It’s interesting to note that in this same chapter (1 Samuel 16:1) the LORD says to Samuel, “I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”

This strikes me as when Abraham said prophetically to his son Isaac on their way to Mount Moriah, “God will provide Himself the Lamb for the burnt offering”.

When God was anointing David, he was pointing prophetically to the anointing of His Son Jesus Christ as the King of all nations.

Jesus Christ is the King of kings. And David’s calling and anointing as king of Israel whose throne was to last forever was a reflection of the everlasting Kingdom of God.

Touching back on the prophecy of Abraham his words to his son Isaac was fulfilled because God The Father indeed did provide Himself in the Person of His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ as The Lamb of God Who was offered in sacrifice for the sins of the world.

Jesus redeemed us from the curse of sin and death and He rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven where He lives at The Father’s right hand.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom has no end.

Those Who He will raise with Him into His Father’s glory, all Who have heard and believed the message of His Kingdom, will live and reign with Him forever!

Alleluia!!! Amen!!!

With such great promises of love, what else truly matters in this world but Jesus?

Let us cast all our cares upon Him for He cares for us!
