Store treasures in Heaven

19 ‘Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and woodworm destroy them and thieves can break in and steal. 20 But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroys them and thieves cannot break in and steal.

Matthew 6:19-20

The LORD Jesus commands us to store treasures for ourselves in Heaven.

Writing this, the word “command” strikes me.

Was this a command of Christ?

Yes!

A command is something we need to obey, no compromise about it.

But why is it a command? Was it for Christ’s benefit that He asks us to store treasures in Heaven. After all, He’s not asking us for money or any earthly riches.

God gave this command (as well as all his other commands) for our good.

It benefits us to store treasures for ourselves in Heaven.

These are the true treasures that last forever, which when we depart from this life will follow us still.

Anyone who doubts this, should recall the story of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31).

So today, let us ask for the grace to heed the command of Christ.

As followers of Jesus, let us ask the Father to empower us with a radical transformation by His Holy Spirit so that we don’t negotiate the terms of our salvation.

But like St Paul who suffered greatly for the sake of spreading the Gospel of Christ; like Mother Mary who said “Fiat” to God, and all the other saints before us, we may humble our hearts to completely love, trust and obey Jesus.

Prayer

Send me Your Spirit of Power, LORD Jesus.

Let Your Holy Spirit radically transform me into a living vessel of love, humility and obedience to Your will for the Father’s glory.

Amen.

Always & Forever,

To the Lamb,

With all my ❤
