Release to the captives

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Luke 4: 18-19

In today’s gospel reflection (Luke 4:16-21), we see how the LORD Jesus prophetically fulfils His ministry as recorded on the book of Isaiah.

He explains very clearly to the listeners what His ministry is about. He has been anointed by the Spirit of God to

– preach good news to the poor

– (the Spirit of the Lord has sent him) to proclaim release to the captives

– recovering of sight to the blind

– set at liberty this who are oppressed

– proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord

This is really incredible when we ponder it more. Jesus Christ Who is Lord of all in His earthly life depended on the anointing of the Holy Spirit to fulfil His ministry.

Wow! If this is so for the Lord Jesus, how much more we frail beings. The ones He has come to set free from captivity.

Truly we NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT.

This might be the most vital lesson we learn as we seek to walk with the Lord and accomplish our Heavenly Father’s purpose on earth.

Jesus needed the Holy Spirit. His ministry started after He was anointed by the Holy Spirit at His baptism and driven by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness.

Mary needed the Holy Spirit. Her ministry as Mother of The Redeemer started after the Holy Spirit came upon her causing the power of the Most High to overshadown her.

The Apostles needed the Holy Spirit. In fact Jesus commanded them not to leave Jerusalem until they were baptised with power from above. After Pentecost when they were baptised by the Holy Spirt, their ministry began.

Prayer

Holy Spirit of God, anoint my life anew.

Fill me with Your Power, I desperately need You.

I depend wholly on You to give me the power and grace necessary for my ministry and the calling You have on my life.

Please help me and do not forsake me.

I abandon everything into Your Divine love.

Amen.

Always & Forever,

To The Lamb,

With all my ❤
