Merciful and Faithful

Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make expiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered and been tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

Hebrews 2:17-18

When we think about Jesus, what thoughts come to mind? How do we seem Him?

For sure our impressions of Who Jesus is, will vary based on our particular experiences at the time.

As an example if we have experienced His work of healing, we would acknowledge Him as Yahweh Rapha (God Who Heals).

If He has provided for our needs in a difficult situation, we acknowledge Him as Yahweh Yireh (God Who Provides).

Today for me, I acknowledge Him as my merciful and faithful High Priest.

Twenty years ago to this day, I encountered the saving power of Jesus in a way that changed my life, completely.

It was on this Feast of The Presentation of Our Lord on 02 Feb 2000, that I offered myself completely to Him (Jesus) through the Immaculate Hands of His Mother, Mary.

As Mary did for Jesus, presenting Him back to His Father, I asked her to do for me.

I didn’t know fully at the time the graces of mercy and faithfulness that the LORD Almighty would pour forth into my life. I was still a youth then.

Now as I look back, I see His saving graces, flooded, all around me.

Christ Jesus delivered me from a life of sin and rebellion to Him and set me firmly on the path of mercy, grace and faithfulness!

It can only be Jesus Who has kept me this far! And I am forever grateful!

And today as I meditate on the Feast of His Presentation, as I meditate on these scriptures from Hebrews, I pray that all who are living a life of sin and sorrow, will come to know Jesus as a merciful and faithful High Priest Who died on the Cross to set them free and bring them into the eternal, abiding love of the Father.

May we all truly experience the mercy, faithfulness and help of Jesus Christ, our High Priest.

Amen!
