for God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 

I John 4: 8-9

God is love.

He who lives in love, lives in God and God lives in Him. 

These verses from St John convey such a profound teaching.

As simple as they sound, when we begin to ponder them deeply we realise that our main mission as Christians is our call to love.

When a teacher of the law asked Jesus which was the greatest of all the commandments, Jesus gave two (Matthew 22: 36 – 40)

1 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind 

2 – Love your neighbour as yourself 

Also when Jesus was at His Last Supper with His disciples, He gave them a new commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13: 34 – 35).

This means that above all else the Lord wants our hearts and lives to be pure reflection of His love.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I repent of self-love and selfishness.

Father, my love has become clouded, old, rusty and self-centred.

Forgive me Holy Father in Jesus Name. 

Please renew my heart in Your love by the Power of Your Holy Spirit.

Fill my life again – that I may be completely wrapped into Your eternal love and grace to love You with all my heart, my soul and mind (and strength) and love my neighbour as myself.

In Jesus MIGHTY Name I pray.
