Jesus is the gate

So Jesus spoke to them again: In all truth I tell you, I am the gate of the sheepfold.

All who have come before me are thieves and bandits, but the sheep took no notice of them.

I am the gate. Anyone who enters through me will be safe: such a one will go in and out and will find pasture.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full.

John 10:7-10

In today’s gospel reading, Jesus reminds us that He is the gate that the sheep can enter through to gain fullness of life.

When we think about this, what does Jesus mean?

First, let’s start with the where?

Where is the destination where eternal life can be found?

Heaven!

Heaven is the destination where everyone enjoys the gift of eternal life.

For eternal life is life with God, Who dwells forever and ever!

So Jesus is saying to us that to get to Heaven, we need to go through Him.

How do we go through Jesus to get to Heaven?

We go through His merits; the sacrifice of His death and the victory of His Resurrection.

We accept the redemption and salvation that He has freely given to us, and say “yes” to Him as our LORD and Saviour.

There is no route to Heaven outside of Jesus. He alone is the Gate.

Secondly, Jesus is saying to us that even here on earth, we can enjoy fullness of life.

We can find safety and pasture if we enter by Him to these gifts.

His promise is that as we accept Him as our LORD and Saviour here on earth, choosing the path of life that He has given us, we will find safety and provision.

Such an abundance of life is available to us here and now, and in the life to come through Jesus Christ our LORD!

Oh that today we would listen to His voice and harden not our hearts.

Prayer

LORD Jesus Christ, we give You praise for Your marvellous mercy towards us.

You have made all gifts available to us in Your bounty!

Your gifts are beautiful and glorious and abundant.

Christ, Jesus we worship You and we accept You as our LORD and Saviour.

I accept You as the Gate through which I pass to gain eternal life, fullness of life and where I pass through to find safety and pasture.

Be exalted in my life LORD as my desire is to have no other LORD but You.

Thank You for Your abundant provision for me LORD and my family.

Amen!

Always & Forever,

To the Lamb,

With all my ❤
