Falling in love with Jesus

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me,
for I came from God and am here;
I did not come on my own, but he sent me.” – John 8: 42

Reflection

In today’s Gospel from Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent, Jesus challenges us who believe in Him, to remain in His word.

He states that by remaining in His word, we will know the truth and the truth will set us free.

So what does it mean to remain in His word?

As we meditate on the rest of the gospel reading from John 8, the Lord sheds some light on His message.

To begin with, He explains that remaining in His Word, means to stop commiting sin, and to be set free from sin by His Power.

In other words, Jesus is telling us that to truly to be His disciples, we have to be willing to let go of any sinful lifestyle, even hidden and secret sins, and allow His grace to set us free from the bondage of sin.

Remaining in His word, also means that we are to receive the teachings of Jesus, and do what we have heard from the Father – as revealed through Christ.

This is the sure path to truly becoming Christ’s disciples.

As I ponder on this, the Lord’s words that if you are from God, you would love me, strikes me.

I wonder what does it mean to love Jesus…even more?

How can we fall in love and remain in love with Jesus?

In John 6: 44, the Lord says that no one can come to Him except the Father draws that person nigh.

Surely the Father’s work by drawing our hearts and minds into a perfect union with His Son is what makes us fall in love with Jesus.

No wonder the Lord Jesus says in today’s Gospel, “if you’re from God, you would love me.”

So today, let us spend some time to ask the Father to draw us nigh to His Son – and help us to fall in love with Jesus again…and again…and again…with each new day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come to You through the Blood of Jesus, Your Son.

We confess that we have sinned and fallen short of Your glory.

Holy Father, look upon the Blood of Jesus, poured out upon us, and let that precious Blood cleanse us in every way by its mighty redeeming Power and set us free from the bondage of sin.

As we present ourselves before You o God, made clean by the Blood of Your Son, we ask for a new heart and mind.

Help us Father God, to fall in love with Jesus, all over again.

Let us remember our first love…

Renew our hearts in His promises to understand His great love for us as He says, “as the Father has loved me, so I have loved you”.

Father draw us nigh to Your Son, and teach us to love Him and remain in love with Him.

We want to abide in His word, help us Holy Father for today and every day.

We thank You Father for we know You have heard and answered us.

In Jesus Name.

Amen.

Blessed be God forever!

Always & Forever,

To The Lamb.

With all my love.
